Just watched Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the one thing I have to say is…STOP MAKING SUPERHERO BASED SHOWS WITHOUT SUPERHEROES!!! Marvel had it all going good with their current movie franchise. Marvel Studios had a grand plan, that everyone in Hollywood said they were crazy to attempt. Merging and crossing over all their single hero movies into the mega blockbuster release “The Avengers”. Guess what? They succeeded…boy did they succeed! So much so that Fox has hinted that their up coming Fantastic Four film and current X-Men franchise will eventually cross pollinate in a shared Universe. Now granted this is just a view of the first episode of Agents…but if they abandon this most successful endeavor...
Last week in Boston Metal Machine had the pleasure of attending the Boston Festival of Indie Games at the MIT campus for a day. In our adventures, we stumbled onto some of the most innovative and learning-centered forms of gaming that the industry has seen to date. The talent in the youth of gaming developers is heightening and thriving as the years go by and this showcase only proved to incite massive amounts of excitement for the future of what is to come.
This film has been highly anticipated all year to be one of, if not the best blockbuster of the summer. I remember sitting in Legendary’s panel at NYCC last year watching the trailer for this film and being instantly inflicted with excitement. When I sat in the theater this past weekend that excitement came to perdition and I sat in awe at the glory that Guillermo Del Toro has created.
In the wake of this line springing upon us, it’s over, technically. Although Age of Ultron #10 alludes that it will be continuing with a mass battle looming the line itself is done. The anticlimactic nature of this hyped up book was a flop in critics and fans eyes. Way to go Bendis, keep your hands out of things we love next time.
I’m going to first state that I have set my expectations for this film very low. My expectations were in fact so low that anything I saw would have been better than I expected. Being a comic fanatic I feel this is the mentality most fans should walk into these movies with. I say this in case the film is terrible so fans aren’t left heart-broken. This being said, I was surprisingly pleased with what I saw.
Say Anything’s lead singer Max Bemis recently released his first comic through Boom! Studios. The comic has been such a success amongst fans that it’s already in it’s second printing and variant cover. However, his music fans aren’t the only ones interested in this ironic series. Great art meets a strangely familiar twist of sanity story line, it’s definitely worth picking up.
Metal Machine had the opportunity to tour the New York Book Expo at the Jacob Javits Center this weekend. Saying that the event was being like a kid in a candy store is an understatement. Any individual could walk into this massive convention and find multiple things to feed their interest. With a wide array of companies promoting their products, it was so easy to get lost in the magic of written word, and then some.
Last Friday at Gramercy Theater fans had the opportunity to rock out with Nashville band Red. With a mixture of elaborate lights and heavy music fans were pleased throwing up the different hand signals expressing their love for the band. It being that it was my first time hearing of this band, I was pleasantly surprised and came instantly home to download their albums.
Metal Machine had the pleasure of attending XCON in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina this weekend. I say pleasure due to the abundance of southern hospitality residing in nerd culture down in the south. The entire weekend was filled with good laughs, buying comics, talking to television stars, and discussing movies with new friends.
