Again, I can’t forgo a split! It’s becoming an addiction… But this time I have to shout the heavens down with probably one of the smoothest, bluesiest, most dulcetly heavy splits/albums you could possibly want for this year! The split of Le’ Betre and King Buffalo is nigh upon us, and its all thanks to the maniac genius of STB Records. This is the blues/rock/metal album you have been craving, and after the jump are some words I may have glued together out of a dictionary or Time magazine.
When bands decide to combine genres, sometimes the results are quite mixed. It goes multiple directions, not always working to the best of any genre, and that makes my heart sad. Ghoulgotha looks to combine some old fashioned death metal and doom on their new release, The Deathmass Cloak, and the results are better than expected!
One of the coolest collaborations is about to drop this February, the split between Le Betre of Sweden and King Buffalo of New York will drop exclusively from DIY vinyl label giant, STB Records! If you love that retro style blues and rock, with an aftertaste of spacey, laidback doom, you have found Nirvana!
In my search for that gritty, dirty heavy stuff that I crave oh so much, I find some cool shit. A band that was brought to my attention on IG (@anthonyvongrimm for the tip), and it did not disappoint! THe band in question is called Yanomamo, which is hard to say in a rush, hard to type correctly the first time, every time, and fun to say. THis band has all the necessary ingredients I seek, and a review is forthwith! After yon jump!
This month, one of the biggest metal acts drops a new record into our laps, the new darker, sexier, sicker Black Widow by In This Moment. The visually stunning act has returned with an album dripping with a dark energy, wanting to sidle up close, whisper somethings into your ear, then make you fall in love while it bleeds you dry from the fangs in your neck. It’s catchy, and sees a fair return to their earlier offerings like Beautiful Tragedy. The beauty of the Black Widow pales to its deadly grace…
Recently, I was lucky enough to find myself privy to a few super low number releases through a boutique, handmade, small business label, STB Records. Steve Macioci, who I have had a few extremely cool emails with, is a one man wonderfactory behind the limited editions, and has handled such giants as: the newest Geezer album Gage, Curse the Son’s Psychache, Red Wizard, Lightsabres, Goya, and a slew of other well known and underground bands. He creates vinyl works of art through the wax medium, brings the essence of the artist’s expression to life with the packaging and attitude with which he approaches every release. Tonight, I have the pleasure of reviewing, before any streaming services or official releases,...
Behold! Another of the almighty splits! This one has the distinct pleasure of hosting 6 tracks of unadulterated doom weighing upon the listener, split between Conan and Slomatics, with the intro a combined effort from the two. Adventure forth, those that seek the heaviest of music, that you may know my inner most thoughts upon this glorious repressing.
From the darkest nebulae of fuzz and distortion, of a dark sound that crushes and all before it, and distorts reality itself, SUNN 0))) has risen. And bleeds the Heavy once again. This time, though, they bring a friend, in the form of Scott Walker. And their union brings about a new sound, warped and ready pull you into their twisted overmind. It’s gonna get a little weird today, with the review of Soused by SCOTT 0)))!
Being a huge fan of Doom, Drone, Stoner, and fuzz in general, and having a borderline obsession with finding stuff on Bandcamp, I have foudn some incredible releases, many not known by people who don’t frequent the site. One such find is the album Klonopain by Curse the Son, a doom band of the bleak and monolithic style.
