I think I make it clear as to what I’m looking for in music: either show me something new that’s going to demand my attention, or give me something of quality. In some genres, it’s a mixed bag: thrash metal, black metal, and punk all respectively don’t need to change anything, as the genre have unspoken rule books on how to write effectively; sometimes there just isn’t anything to reinvent and it’s better to keep the wheeling spinning as it always has.

Multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated band Goo Goo Dolls today announce the release of their new 5 song EP You Should Be Happy, via Warner Bros. Records. The EP was recorded at EastWest studios in LA and produced by Drew Pearson (OneRepublic, Katy Perry) who first collaborated with the band on their previous release, Boxes.
New Hampshire’s Vattnet, formerly known as Vattnet Viskar, have been getting attention in the US black metal scene in the past few years, with their releases Sky Swallower and Settler gathering positive reviews and attention. Last year, after completing a tour with the prolific black metal act, Taake, the band underwent some changes and went mostly silent.
It shook the In Flames fanbase at first, but when Peter Iwers stepped down as bassist, it was quickly announced that he was reuniting with former band mate Jesper Stromblad. Soon after, the project was revealed to be titled “CyHra” and other members were being announced around the same time. Little has been revealed since then, but we may be getting closer to finding out what they’ll be sounding like.
Satyricon are one of the most recognizable black metal acts, stemming from a long line of history that started in the 90’s. The Norwegian black metal outfit, consisting of multi-instrumentalist Satyr and renowned drummer Frost, have released music sparingly in the past decade, but it seems fans won’t have to wait much longer for something sizable.
