The Big Kahuna Hard Music Comments Off on Voivod to release “Tatsumaki: Voivod in Japan 2008” DVD

“This is the most bad ass band I ever heard in my life. Every musician has a signature, Voivod had four. Voivod sounded like no one else. They are one of a kind.” – Dave Grohl (from bonus interview) MVD Visual is proud to announce the worldwide DVD release of Tatsumaki: Voivod in Japan 2008 on November 17, 2009.

by Todd Matthy One of the most successful ways to bring new readers to comics has been through licensed properties. Some of the greatest comics of all time have been based on licenses. (Example: GI Joe) One of my favorite comics currently on the racks is Marvel’s book based on Stephen King’s The Dark Tower.  Done as several interconnecting limited series, The Dark Tower comics use the novels as framework to tell new stories based around events referenced in the novels. The success of these books has led me to believe a similar method can be applied to J.R.R Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings.

by Todd Matthy In 1984 Marvel Comics released The Transformers comic book and it was a success. However, Marvel was initially weary of the new concept and decided to give the series a shot in the arm by having Marvel characters guest star in an issue. This practice was not new; such licensed books as Micronauts and Shogun Warriors often had guest stars or made guest appearances with Marvel characters. Transformers number three is one such comic and it guest stars none other than the Amazing, Spectacular, and Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

By Todd Matthy With the release of Zack Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead a blight fell upon pop culture. That blight is zombies. Since 2005, everyone and their sister has done or released a comic or movie based around zombies. Marvel Zombies, The Walking Dead, Zombies of Mass Destruction, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, The Corpse Bride, World War Z, Shaun of the Dead, Planet Terror, anything Resident Evil related, the Army of Darkness comics, Blackest Night President Evil (starring Obama against Zombies), and who knows what else I omitted. Enough already! I am sick to death of zombies.

by Todd Matthy Last night All That Remains and Lacuna Coil graced an excited and fired up New York City crowd at the Fillmore at Irving Plaza. I arrived after the two opening acts in time for Lacuna Coil to take the stage. Lacuna Coil was great. The crowd roared the second Cristina Scabbia and Andrea Ferro took the stage. I was very impressed with the harmonizing of Cristina and Andrea. Every note and lyric they sang together was perfect and a second or pitch off. The star of the show, obviously, was Cristina.
