For adult manga fans, the pickings aren’t exactly great. At the end of the day, US translation of manga is skewed towards younger audiences; so a good mature read can be hard to come by. Thankfully we do have some imprints bringing some great stuff to our shores, and today I’m going to introduce you to two decidedly underappreciated gems from VIZ. In 2015 Dark Horse Comics will publish Frankenstein Underground, a new five-issue miniseries written by best-selling comic book creator Mike Mignola, with covers by Mignola and interior art by acclaimed artist Ben Stenbeck (Baltimore). The miniseries follows the Frankenstein monster, who is alone, abandoned, and wandering underground, where he discovers both other monsters and the dark secrets to the universe. The miniseries will be the second appearance of the Frankenstein monster within the mythology and continuity of Hellboy, B.P.R.D., and the other Mignolaverse titles; the character first appeared in the graphic novel House of the Living Dead by Mignola and Richard Corben.
Sean Danielsen, guitarist/vocalist of veteran hard rock band, Smile Empty Soul, has announced a new solo EP ‘Food Chain’ to be released on November 4. Unlike Danielsen’s previous solo EP ‘Enjoy the Process,’ which released in 2013 and featured six acoustic tracks, ‘Food Chain’ will consist of five full-band songs recorded at Babyland Studios in Van Nuys, Calif.
