Anathema, one of the U.K.’s most cherished and critically acclaimed rock bands, will release a live Blu-ray/audio collection entitled A Sort of Homecoming on October 30 via Kscope. Directed by Lasse Hoile (Steven Wilson, Katatonia, Opeth),  A Sort  of  Homecoming is a stunning concert film of Anathema’s homecoming show on March 7, 2015 in the spectacular setting of the Liverpool Cathedral. The concert was described by Prog Magazine as “a once in a lifetime experience that words can barely do justice.”

With his first North American tour in more than a decade set to kick off next week, legendary guitarist MARTY FRIEDMAN has unveiled “Jasmine Cyanide,” a track recorded during the sessions for his latest album “Inferno.” The song — which features vocals by Canadian rocker Danko Jones and TesseracT’s Daniel Tompkins, as well as guitar work by Keshav Dhar (Skyharbor) and drums by Anup Sastry (Jeff Loomis, Intervals) — is one of two bonus tracks that appear on the new deluxe edition of “Inferno,” which will be released across digital platforms this Friday (4). Bay Area Tech Death/Thrash Metallers INSANITY are set to release their first full-length album since 1994. Visions of Apocalypse will be released on CD November 13 on Unspeakable Axe Records. A vinyl LP version on Dark Descent Records is also in the works, tentatively set for a late year release.

On Wednesday, in near 100-degree heat and high humidity, a riot broke out in the exercise yard of the Sybil Brand Institute, the women’s prison in East Los Angeles, where Slayer shot the music video for the new track “Repentless.”  In fact, while Slayer performed the track under that punishing sun over an eight-hour period, the “prisoners” had to stage a riot for somewhere north of twelve takes before director BJ McDonnell finally called it a wrap.  But that was all pretty much in keeping with McDonnell’s brutal vision for the clip, a vision that many in the veteran cast and crew referred to as “more like something for a feature film than a rock band’s music video.” This...
