For a sophomore album, Myrkur’s Mareridt is shaping up to be a formidable force this year. Along with an accompanying video for the new song, Myrkur is also reaching for new ground on “Ulvinde,” and fans will no doubt be pleased with the result.
While featuring all of Myrkur’s notable aspects of the sound, featuring black metal shrieks and angelic choirs over droning-yet-melodic guitars, “Ulvinde” is a push in the sound, further pushing her to the fullest of her capabilities. Even more remarkable is the fact that this song feels… Anthemic? One listen and you’ll get what I mean, seeing as Myrkur is pushing the boundaries of what is acceptable in black metal.
Mareridt is released on September 15th on Relapse Records. You can listen to “Ulvinde” below.
