VolbeatWhile on their run opening for Metallica a few months ago, Volbeat had originally scheduled an headlining date in New Jersey. The day before the show, the band were forced to reschedule it as vocalist and guitarist Michael Poulsen went to be with his wife, who had just given birth back in Denmark. Fulfilling their promise to make the date up, Volbeat returned to New Jersey Monday night, the 17th, and with it they brought up a few surprises.

In addition to having Frank Bello of Anthrax join them on stage, Volbeat premiered a new song for the crowd that night. Titled “The Everlasting,” fans were initially surprised to hear that it heavily contrasted that of their most recent release, Seal the Deal & Let’s Boogie. The new song is question is more metal and less rock than their previous album, bringing back the heavier aspect of their sound, all the while featuring a Metallica-like song structure. The bridge of the song is more dynamic and now just a piece to transition into a guitar solo, and the main riff has a very thrash metal-inspired pattern to it that resembles the obvious source of inspiration.

You can view the performance of the song below.
