» Blog Archive Deeper Underground: Xenophile -

XenophileThrash is a complicated genre, despite several aspects of it being relied on conventions established 30 years ago. The genre itself has grown in different ways, but for the most part it’s common for bands to follow the standards set before them. That’s not a bad thing, but for people trying to find new bands in the genre, it’s usually new, safe bands that gather attention. Occasionally bands do new things with the sound, but they’re few and far between. Xenophile are among the few to venture out and break some rules while honoring the genre triumphantly.

Playing a hybrid of progressive metal and thrash metal, Xenophile echo that of Megadeth’s technicality but on a more extreme level. Taking that technicality of pre-Countdown to Extinction Megadeth and melding it with Iron Maiden’s vocal and melody approach crafts something seemingly so easy to do but hard to master. If the opening track on the band’s debut Systematic Enslavement is any indication, Xenophile aren’t pushovers, though, and that remains consistent throughout the hour’s one-hour runtime. Many bands are too afraid to play this technically or professionally, but it seems like the band can do this in their sleep judging by each of their songs.

Recently, the band released a music video for “Suffer Unto Tyranny.” The song and the band’s album are available on iTunes and for purchase in the band’s store on their website.
