LcVZZzIZSomething that should surprise absolutely no one, even if it weren’t in this current golden age of superhero movies, Fox has announced at CinemaCon that Deadpool 2 will definitely happen. Both Ryan Reynolds and director Tim Miller are both returning, as well as writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese.

Deadpool 2 had been mentioned prior to the first film’s release, and was blatantly confirmed by Deadpool himself in the film’s post-credit scene. Fox had been negotiating with Reynolds and Miller about returning, making it public that the sequel was being set in motion. Currently, all we know for certain is that Deadpool will be joined by Cable in the film.

No word yet on who will play the time-traveling mutant, but actor Stephen Lang was petitioning for the role two months ago following the film’s release. Also unknown are if any other members of Deadpool’s supporting cast will be returning at all. (Personally, I’m crossing my fingers for another Bob cameo)

Deadpool 2 has no release date yet, but with the Channing Tatum-starring Gambit being removed from Fox’s calendar for the time being, that leaves an October 6, 2017 and January 12, 2018 dates open for unspecified Marvel movies from Fox.

Deadpool has no doubt shaken Hollywood up, proving that not all superhero properties have to be rated PG-13 to be successful. Since its release, Fox has also revealed, in light of Deadpool’s success, the next Wolverine film with be rated-R as well.

Deadpool will be arriving on home formats on May 10 this year. Expect more news in the coming months for the sequel.
