maxresdefaultNever one to not being doing something, Devin Townsend took to Twitter to announce that the recording of the new Devin Townsend Project album, Transcendence, would be beginning next week.

Drummer Ryan Van Poederooyen has been updating his Facebook page in the past few months about the status of writing for the album, saying that it had a very “classic” Devin Townsend vibe to it. RVP also went on to post photos today of Armoury Studios in Vancouver where they will be doing their work.

In his usual Twitter splurges, Townsend wrote “I think the new album will ultimately be about fighting to not let the chaos of our times get you down. To get over ourselves and our fear.”

Devin Townsend PDevin-Townsend-bannerroject released Z2 in 2014, a sprawling double-disc which featured Sky Blue, a more typical, natural progression from 2012’s Epicloud, as well as Dark Matters, the sequel disc to 2007’s Ziltoid the Omniscient.

Townsend also confirmed recently that long-time partnered vocalist Anneke van Giersbergen would be taking part in the recording of Transcendence. Van Giersbergan’s was confirmed last winter to be appearing with Devin Townsend Project at ProgPower USA in Atlanta, Georgia, in which she has never performed with the band on US soil before. This heavily suggests that she will be touring with the band in North America come late summer or early fall.

Transcendence has no release date yet, but judging by the band’s recording schedules for Epicloud and Z2, it’s a safe bet to expect the album to be out between September and October.
