» Blog Archive Monuments to Play Instrumentally on US Tour -
Evan Conway Hard Music, News, Tours

UK tech-metal band Monuments are currently scheduled to be returning to US soil for the first time in a little over a year this month. However, the band made an announcement on their Facebook yesterday afternoon, signaling some changes to their live show on this run.

“Due to some very serious personal issues, our man Chris will not be making it out with us on The Contortionist tour. He needs some time to get these issues taken care of- and we respect that and want to give him the time to get his head straight. We will be moving forward with the tour anyways and will be doing it INSTRUMENTAL! Something we’ve had to do a few times already- so we are confident that we will smash it and make you all proud. To make it a little more awesome for our friends out there, and to make up for the lack of vocals- we will play some lesser performed tracks from Gnosis/The Amanuensis albums- AND we will also be playing TWO new tracks from album #3… Unfortunately in order to do this right we need to rehearse some more – so sadly we will miss our shows at South By South Death tonight and Corpus Christi on the 18th … but we will be playing So What Music Festival and then smashing it with The Contortionist – ENTHEOS and sleepmakeswaves across North America until May … see you on the road!”

Monuments are no strangers to playing instrumental live. Notably, before their debut 2012 album Gnosis was released, they had played the material without vocals before vocalist Matt Rose join the band.Screen-Shot-2016-01-19-at-8.22.46-PM

The band’s current vocalist, Chris Barretto, has fronted bands such as Periphery and Ever Forthright in the past, including The HAARP Machine soley live, before joining Monuments in 2013, and recording 2014’s The Amanuensis, meeting positive reviews and touring with bands like Devin Townsend Project, Animals as Leaders, and Glasscloud.

Monuments will be opening for The Contortionist on their North American adventure this spring, alongside Entheos and sleepmakeswaves. All tour dates, including Monuments headliners are listed below from Monuments’ Facebook page.
