Rich Robinson has kept pure rock n’ roll vital for more than two decades now – first as a co-founding member and songwriter of the iconic group, The Black Crowes and now as a critically acclaimed solo artist. Besides being a renowned guitarist, singer, songwriter, and producer, Rich is also a gifted visual artist. Morrison Hotel Gallery is thrilled to showcase this side of Robinson’s artistry.

From Friday, April 1st thru Sunday, April 17th MHG SoHo Loft located at 116 Prince Street will present the transcendent artwork of Rich Robinson. The exhibit is curated by creative director Elena John, and it will be preceded by an exclusive, invite only, opening reception on Thursday, March 31 with a Rich Robinson meet and greet.

This will be the first time Morrison Hotel Gallery has shown Robinson’s work, and the collection will include paintings and ink drawings, the majority of which have never been publicly shown. Signature to Robinson’s painting work is abstraction, texture contrast, and a rich and earthy color palette.

In an interview with PASTE Magazine he has said: “My inspiration to paint comes from the possibility of what could be. For me, the painting process differs from music because of the solitude involved. It starts and stops when I decide. The similarity is the way I’m influenced. With music, it’s the sonics that influence me. A tone can spark a whole song. With painting, it’s the color and textures that influence me. I layer on the paint and as the textures develop, the painting takes shape. The general relationship is different because of the number of senses used. With guitar it’s my ear that dictates the song and moves me. With painting, it’s the feel of the paint, the feel of the brush in your hands, the smell of the paint and the depth of what I’m seeing. Music is much more ethereal.”

Coupled with his work on behalf of The Black Crowes, Rich Robinson has embraced a creatively epiphanic solo career. He has issued a string of masterful studio albums and EP’s. He will issue new expanded catalog releases from his solo career via Eagle Rock Entertainment. These CD, LP, and digital releases will lead up to the eagerly anticipated, May 2016 release of Robinson’s new solo album.

These newly re-imagined albums — Paper, Llama Blues (February 26), Through A Crooked Sun, and Woodstock Sessions (April 15) – include previously unreleased tracks and penned essays from Robinson himself. The LP versions will be issued as colored vinyl: Llama Blues in blue, Paper in red, Through A Crooked Sun in white, and Woodstock Sessions in brown. The cover of Paper and Woodstock Sessions both feature original artwork created by Robinson.
