Cannibal Crematorium

Boasting a very old school approach and sound, Bone Gnawer seeks to strip the music down to its marrow, and slaver fresh grue upon the listener as they shred and pummel along for 11 tracks. Their fifth album, not counting a couple of splits, Cannibal Crematorium sees them at peak form. Its a vicious album, musically, and they didn’t skimp on the packaging either, as it boasts a conglomeration of horrors, and the extremely horrific throne of bones and skulls of the slain. Before this massive creation, is a fiery pit of gore and parts, thrown together for the enjoyment of the creature that calls this its home.

The sounds on this album are vicious, with guitars that are picked till they are basically percussion, with a tone that sounds like they are stripping the metal from their strings in the process. Combined with sound bites of murderous screams, chainsaws, news footage cuts of murders and brutality, the sonic putrescence that bleeds forth from the speakers is exceptional, and clear as a child’s cries at 2:00 am. Its an avalanche of pure death metal, and has very few moments that let you up for relief. Its fast, aggressive, and full of the hallmarks of what the genre used to be. It’s the thrash nastiness from the early 90’s, with money behind the music, allowing every single piece of filth to fall off in a sonic stream from a rusty spigot.

And in true metal fashion, there isn’t just the speed of 11 throughout the whole album, as track 6, Il Sesso Bizzarro Di Cannibali slows it down. The track is a tribal journey, in a horrendous language combination, with one voice a modulated female’s, the other a guttural mumble that just oozes evil. The back beat of jungle drums just creates a tense atmosphere in this slow track. It splits the album nicely, and allows you to catch your breath without losing the menace.

Fans of old school, horrific death metal take note: here’s something meaty to chew on July 10th! Grab Cannibal Crematorium by Bone Gnawer before the dirt settles…
