King Parrot albumDead Set is the new full-length from Australian thrash grind goliaths, KING PARROT. Captured by Philip H. Anselmo and Michael Thompson with Steve Berrigan at the infamous Nodferatu’s Lair (Down, Eyehategod, Superjoint Ritual) in Louisiana, KING PARROT’s Dead Set wields ten grind-laden, punk-infused odes of defiant audio savagery bedecked in the dark, cynical humor for which the band has become notorious.

A true leap forward from their Bite Your Head Off debut, Dead Set parades a distinct maturity from a band who’s committed to the rigors of international touring, slaying audiences through Asia, North America, Europe and Australia on a steady basis. “Overall, Dead Set is reminiscent of the groovier moments of Pig Destroyer, which, is no small amount of praise,” relays MetalSucks in a 4/5 rating of the record, further elaborating, “The band manages to bring plenty of fury, but it’s the slower, more textured sequences that really make the album a standout. Sophomore efforts are often pushed as ‘harder, heavier, faster,’ but here, KING PARROT decides not to just be angry all over again, and instead gives listeners the evil they crave.” PureGrainAudio lauds a record that’s, “unstoppably relentless from the get-go,” and, “a ferocious album to listen to with the punk sneer of ‘Like A Rat’ sounding like, for want of a better description, Cancer Bats bastardizing the ’80s Bay Area thrash scene. Elsewhere Dead Set is just rammed full of stomping, grinding, raging thrash. None of that retro-thrash shit; this is just heads down, fuck-you thrashing insanity,” while Metal Obsession hails, “ten tracks, all balls to the wall flat out, riffy, groovy, fuzzy, aggressive, KING PARROT deliciousness.”

We wanted to work together with the best people in the business to make this a great record and when Phil [Anselmo] said he wanted to be involved it was a no-brainer,” expounds vocalist Matt “Youngy” Young. “The great thing about this record is that it actually sounds like a real band and is a reflection of where we are at right now. In my eyes, that is everything a record should be. We are super proud of this and can’t wait to show everyone what we have in store.”

Emerging from the Australian metal scene, KING PARROT draws influence from the thrash, grind, hardcore and punk scenes of the ’80s and ’90s and have pillaged their way to international recognition since their inception in 2010. The band was recently nominated in the category of “Best New Band” in Metal Hammer’s Golden God Awards. Cast your vote for KING PARROT HERE.
