So many bands want to combine genres these days: from Post-Op Prog Rock to TransThrashPop Opera, it always refreshing to hear a band that just strips all the BS away. It’s Metal. Dying Humanity is this such a band! THeir new slab of Hevy Metal comes in the form of Deadened, which is what you’ll be after a good pummeling from this article!
So, to give you a good idea of what this album sounds like, think of Metalcore- GET BACK HERE! Struggling only makes me hug tighter. Let me finish. It’s Metalcore, but drop the core for the most part. This is what All That Remains should be sounding like now. Dying Humanity has taken a very played out genre, gone through all the steps of sounding terrible, then actually being metal, recorded that bit, and given us an album that slays. This is no weak, weeping breakup album, this is what it sounds like when you have a band made of men. With titles like Bloodshot Eyes, Deadened, Beyond Redemption, and Psychotic Illusion, this album isn’t coddling you.
From the title track, Deadened, Dying Humanity comes at you with some metal swagger. A jangly, vaguely eastern sounding guitar belies the intensity they throw at you just a little into the 5+ minute song. Several times I feel that they are held back by not playing fast or brutal enough for the energy in the music, but it’s nothing I deduct points for. They aren’t playing the Mohr Brutlz game, they are just bringing fucking metal to you, and that’s all that’s needed! And it’s not all speed and vicious! Dying Humanity has a softer, more melodic side, as displayed on Oblivion. Purely instrumental, the first section is quite beautiful classic style acoustic, and then almost neo-classical speed metal. They bring many influences to bear on Deadened, it’s quite the audio buffet. It definitely fits under the more broad category of Metal, than if you tried to pigeon hole it or them.
Overall, the execution and display that Dying Humanity lays down on Deadened will crush your expectations. To call themselves simply metal is a very heavy weight to put above your head, and they carry it perfectly. Look for hints of thrash, NWOBHM, neo classical, classical, and just simply heavy music from these guys, and just sit back as they take you on a most welcome journey!
Look for Deadened by Dying Humanity soon!
