Leeches of LoreMany bands seek to tow a line they usually set, or follow a fad that restricts what they could be doing. Not so with Leeches of Lore, who, like Primus, Slough Feg, King Crimson, or Geezer, take the paths that the four winds dictate. Or late night movie channels. Whatever their influences of the moment, Frenzy, Ecstasy will not be a boring time.

Leeches of Lore, with a sick name, is a band of 3, including Andy Lutz, Noah Wolters, and Steve Hammond. Classified as Speed Metal, I have to disagree. More Noise Rock with heavy outside influences. Seems to be manic combinations of metal, rock, spaghetti western, off-beat humor, and whatever else couldn’t run away fast enough. They have no fear of throwing something in a blender and then recording it, and it hits 99% awesome! THey are quite manic and unpredictable as Frenzy, Ecstasy goes on, with every song have so many influences you won’t get it all in 3 listens. It’s the perfect blend of weird, wild, and wonderful.

Their sound is flexible as a Russian gymnast, and they adhere to nothing except the loose theme inside their brains. The opener, Afghanistan Banana Stand, is one of the most fun songs ever. It is a wild ride down 60’s Psych, Surf guitar, and almost Benny Hill-esque slapstick. As it bleeds into L’evoluzione dei Microbi, seamlessly I will definitely add, it all of a sudden becomes Sergio Leone and Spaghetti Western time. It’s a soundtrack to possibly the best kind of insanity, and these two songs have nothing to do with anything else on the record. And even the end of the song is completely weird, it ends on what sounds a bit industrial. The album is a first class Mindfuck, but guess what? You won’t care, because that foot is going to be tapping, and you’re going to be smiling and nodding along… Especially when Bull Pizzle pops up third, just old punk and rock, again divorced from L’evoluzione… quite a bit, but closer to Banana Stand. It’s a super fun record, which I have said way too much, but I can’t help it. It’s like stepping on ants, just can’t stop once you start!

Leeches of Lore have blown the park up after they stripped the ball down into the rubbery core to play with the strings, and I couldn’t be more happy with how this came out. Check out their Bandcamp for Frenzy, Ecstasy and other release! Now if you will excuse me, I am pretty sure my brain melted out a little ways back… I NEED A MOP!
