The hype is completely true. The amount of fun and toe tapping excitement in this film was incredible. From the opening scene until the very end you as a viewer are completely engaged and toppled over with laughter as you are introduced to some very unknown character of the Marvels galactic universe.Guardians
This film begins with a view in 1988 of our young hero, Peter Quill. He is sporting his ancient technology, a Walkman, on his ears while waiting in a hospital to hear news of his dying mother. He goes into her room to say his final goodbyes than runs away in a fury into a field where he is then abducted by a ship. Fast forward into the future and you see our present day Peter Quill, also known as Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) dancing about an alien creature infested cave to some pretty amazing 70’s music. The amazing soundtrack of classic hits is a common theme throughout the film. So much so that these tracks, that have been long forgotten in the archives of billboards decades long top 100’s lists, have suddenly become top selling iTunes tracks once again. In this film Star-Lord is on the prowl for an orb that he knows nothing about but is worth an incredible amount of money. However, he is not the only one looking for it. We are then introduced to a multitude of characters that shower the film with a connection point between the Marvel world that we know and the one we are currently watching. Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) is introduced on a clear mission to obtain this orb for his employer Thanos (Josh Brolin). Thanos of course was featured at the end of the Avengers in the after credit scenes. For those of you who do not know, Thanos is the mother of all super villains when it comes to space domination. Thanos has given Ronan his two daughters, Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Nebula(Karen Gillan) to aid him in the orbs retrieval. In return for the sphere Thanos has promised Ronan revenge on a planet that he has long resented. Gomora is sent to retrieve the orb from Star-Lord. This interactions leads to a fight which gets Star-Lord noticed by two bounty hunters: a gun wielding racoon named Rocket(Bradley Cooper) and a morphing Tree monster, Groot(Vin Diesel). Amidst the four way fight for money coming in different forms, all four are apprehended by the police. While in prison we discover that Gamora is planning to betray Ronan and Thanos and in return for her cooperation and knowledge the four team up to become the title team of this film. Along the way (after attempting to kill Gamora because of her ties to Ronan) the group picks up Drax the Destroyer(David Bautista). The rest of the film is a beautiful matrimony of comedy and action that pleases ever nerd boy and girls heart.
This film is an absolute must see. It is rated PG-13. There’s a lot of debate about bringing children to see it because of the freely flowing vulgarity that is present in the film (mainly coming from rocket) however, I can assure you that all violence is implied, and not actually shown. The cast of characters is incredible including Benicio Del Torro as the Collector, John C. Reily, Glenn Close as Nova Prime, and Michael Rooker as blue, arrow wielding ,and whistle blowing Yandu. The only thing I wanted from this film was more. Seeing as Marvel is expanding their universe and frequently including the infinity stones (*coughs*gems), we are gearing up towards one incredible story line, The Infinity Gauntlet. The infinity wars are well renowned as classic Marvel writing and a book line that every comic nerd should read. Go see this film, you will not regret it.
