Hunter Young Hard Music, News

Founder and only stable member of GWAR, the famous gore-adorned politically outspoken metal band, David Brockie, was found dead in his home in Richmond, VA, an unconfirmed report states.

Found by his roommate, police have not found any indication to suspect foul play. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine official cause.

Band members and friends, including Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe (a band that GWAR had helped by bringing on one of their first tours ever) and Jamie Jasta of Hatebreed, have expressed surprise and sadness at his passing.

His character, Oderus Urungus, was a boisterous, somewhat philosophical landmine of vulgarity and wit, who was known to spout insensitive jokes about dead babies, rape, and rampant drug use. His antics had garnered national attention at various times, from various outlets. They were even featured on Jerry Springer under the pretense that violent images inspired violent children. No drugs were found in his home at the time any statements were issued.

A forthcoming statement shall be issued for this unconfirmed report, by the band sometime later today, it will be posted in its entirety as an update on here, as well as any updates on what the medical autopsy will uncover.

UPDATE 03/24:

A statement has been issued from GWAR’s management, as follows:

“It is with a saddened heart, that I confirm my dear friend Dave Brockie, artist, musician, and lead singer of GWAR passed away at approximately 6:50 PM, EST – Sunday March 23, 2014. His body was found Sunday by his band mate at his home in Richmond, VA. Richmond authorities have confirmed his death and next of kin has been notified. A full autopsy will be performed. He was 50 years old, born August 30, 1963.

My main focus right now is to look after my band mates and his family. More information regarding his death shall be released as the details are confirmed.”

*********
On a personal note, GWAR was one of the best bands I have ever had the pleasure to watch live. They were as crass and vulgar as they were always billed to be, with every minute a comedy show of the bluest hues. I will never forget that show, nor will I ever not listen to their music. Mr. Brockie left a legacy that will last all those he touched (in bathrooms and elsewhere) their lifetimes, both in and out of therapy. You will forever be missed, by an y and all who had the pleasure to witness or meet you.
