» Blog Archive Straight From the Sleaze: New Bones Album Sons of Sleaze! -

Now I know Punk and Metal are the two tough kids on the playground, and they don’t like to get along (even though the other kids might say hurtful things like they share similar stylistic hints), but holy hell do they make a fun combo!

Bones takes that crusty punk attitude and speed, and fully stomps those Doc Martins into the ass of speed metal’s faded denims! Its fast, loud, obnoxious, and probably smells a little suspect if you pay too much attention, or just haven’t drank enough questionable libations…. This is a seriously fun album, and I love when two styles just mesh perfectly. Sons of Sleaze is a perfect title, as they don’t really get that much dirtier outside of stoner or doom metal bands, and they can keep up with almost anyone out there right now.

Plus, these guys get It. They know what they like, they know what they play, and they know how to pull the theatrics; names like Carcass Chris (Guitar, Vocals), Jon Necromancer (Bass, Lead Vocals), and lastly, Joe Warlord (Drums, Vocals), tell you exactly what the hell you’re in store for! Love that slightly Schlocky stuff, and these guys just somehow catered to me.

On to the album itself, here’s a short little blurb from Planet Metal:

“Chicago’s filthiest trio marches out of the sewers of hell with twelve freshly-severed slabs of death metal sleaze!  ‘Sons of Sleaze’ delivers its unfair share of nasty surprises, incorporating violent blasts and low-tuned slime with a dirty rock-and-roll backbone that has never been more apparent, especially when it comes to Jon Necromancer’s undead belch!  The impossibly-heavy combination of Necromancer’s bass and Carcass Chris’s muscular guitar riffs is once again captured in all its devastating glory, and drummer Joe Warlord’s huge vocabulary of patterns and fills keeps the energy level in the red for the entire 37-minute beating that is ‘Sons of Sleaze’.  Held together by a cover that could only be called “a new low” for artist Putrid, this album is highly recommended for the rotten-hearted, ill-natured, and furious!”

Not a lie in there! Heavy, filthy, muscular. Reminds me of my last date… It has the usual awesome songs titles, such as “13″, “Suicide”. “Maggots”, an d”647 Bastards”. That last is just a bit egregious, but I feel they had their beers in the right place.

As to a favorite or highlight…. It’s really the whole album. That sounds like a cop out, but I honestly don’t care! This thing runs like a fucking burning car down a hill, and I want to let it strike me down! It’s not a mainstream thing, and its not really underground (to me), but its good for when you have nothing else on your mind and you need to take it somewhere fun.

And now…. Blurbs!

Praise for Bones’ self-titled debut (2011):

“..to me this is without any doubts one the coolest releases in the Crust / Death / Thrash genre for quite a long time!” – Voices From the Darkside

“..frenzied, ragged death metal dripping with the filth and swagger of punk -— no quantized typewriter drums or guitars compressed into bland, congested slabs.” – Chicago Reader

“..one generation away from the Motörhead-inspired ground zero of death metal.” – (Invisible Oranges)
