The Big Kahuna Hard Music, News

There’s a lot of talk out there these days, and really in recent years, about Hollywood being “out of ideas.” This is one reason that many of the biggest and most successful films of recent years have been re-makes and sequels, and massive franchises like Marvel movies based on old comics, etc. As a consequence of the seeming lack of new ideas, many are turning to other forms of casual entertainment.

For example, TV seems to be on the upswing, as people find content at their fingertips everywhere they turn. These days, you don’t have to get into a new show and wait a week between episodes – you can simply log into HBO on Demand and watch all of The Wire as quickly as you’d like, or go back and check out The Sopranos a second time.

Additionally, online gaming is becoming more and more popular every minute. Now, it’s not just about carefree multiplayer online communities. Gambling has entered the picture, and turned Internet gaming into a massive industry. Users can play anything from bingo, to video poker, to live card games in an attempt to make a few extra bucks. At Betfair Bingo they give a welcome, host value nights, and every Monday randomly drop £100 in prizes into their players’ accounts. who wouldn’t want to be one of the lucky ones? It’s no wonder sites with this sort of entertainment and money-making value are occupying more people’s time.

You get the point – there’s new entertainment everywhere, and with the movie industry stalling out, theaters are a bit emptier. However, of all people, Metallica may be breaking the trend with their odd-looking film “Through The Never” about to come out. At a glance, the movie looks like another 3D concert experience made for the cinema – but then you keep watching the trailer and realize that somehow, it’s an ordinary movie as well. So what exactly is “Through The Never?”

According to the synopsis, it’s the story of Trip (played by rising star and young-Leonardo DiCaprio look alike Dane DeHaan), a roadie for Metallica who’s sent on an errand during a massive show. As Metallica performs (and the audience is treated to a slew of greatest hits), Trip finds that his ordinary mission for the band is spiraling out of control into a life-or-death conflict with a deadly horseman. It’s a semi-apocalyptic, surreal adventure through which Trip must retrieve an item for the band, and it looks like the weirdest – and potentially most original – movie in years.

However, for fans of the band, and for those movie fans drifting away to other forms of entertainment, “Through The Never” ought to be a breath of fresh air. All you need to do is check out the trailer – a strange, dark vision of the movie set to a live performance of the iconic song “Enter Sandman” – and you’ll be intrigued at the least. Throw in the fact that the movie looks like a chance to see Metallica on a 3D IMAX screen in a movie that looks as if it will invite crowds to get raucous, and this looks like a blast.
