So it begins, or ends depending on how you look at it. Ben Affleck has been announced as the predecessor of Christian Bale as the Dark Knight himself Bruce Wayne. There has been an uproar of controversy hitting every corner of the internet this evening as the announcement invaded the knowledge of fans. Warner Brothers announced today that Affleck will be starring in the newly announced crossover film involving Henry Cavill as Superman and actor/director Ben as Batman. Amy Adams will be reprising her role as Louis Lane and Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, as well as Diane Lane as Martha Kent. All of this news comes in lieu of the bomb dropped at San Diego Comic Con that there will be a Superman/Batman film in the near future. I don’t think that anyone expected that the casting would come as quickly and brashly as it did. Snyder has gone on record stating that Affleck will proved a interesting “counter-balance” to Cavill’s Superman. However, does interesting provide the proper context to that of one of DC comics most well known heroes? “(Affleck) has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne,” said Snyder. “I can’t wait to work with him.” The film is slated to air on July 17th, 2015 and does not have a title as of late.

Aside from the new margin of politic and things of film nature, can we talk about the fact that Affleck has already portrayed a very radio active, blind, law driven individual known by Matthew Murdock? That’s right, Daredevil is returning with full sight and vengeance for the masses as Batman and no one is happy about it. How in the flying hell are you going to have good ole will hunting Ben pretend as if he didn’t already flop a DC production as Daredevil. I know that I am not the only one livid about this. In my opinion, you are given one shot as a super hero. If you botch it, you’re fucked. Get over it and move agro. Ha. No, but seriously, this isn’t alright, and fans are furious. There are so many capable and able actors to play this role, why spend your budget on a big named atrocity and expect the best? I wonder what kind of rewrites are going into making Ben fit as the Dark Knight, perhaps Michael Bay can attribute his input to create a Pearl Harbor meets JLA. That sounds like the path we’re heading down. Say goodbye to the comic book movie peak, this is officially where we say “It’s been a great ride” and sign off.
