It has been stated that Saoirse Ronan has passed on the chance to play Wanda Maximoff in the latest installment of Avengers: Age of Ultron. With all of the drama surrounding this character it should come as no surprise that the role is being tossed around like a hot potato. Zack Snyder was in speaks of featuring the brother/sister duo of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in his newest film Days of Future Past but, was thwarted by the firm grips of Disney/Marvel quickly leaving the roles with a stigma that need to be filled. Saorise Ronana starred as Susie Salmon in the heart wrenching film The Lovely Bones a couple years ago. She was Wheadon’s first pick to play the Scarlet Witch, however with her rejection comes an instant secondary name for the role and it comes in the form of, Elizabeth Olsen. Elizabeth is the younger sister of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen and is not quite yet tainted by on screen appearances, thus making her the perfect leading lady for Wheadon to mold into his Wanda Maximoff. Going back to licensing issues there are going to be a lot malfunctions with the Witches back story. Wanda Maximoff just so happens to be the daughter of X-Men villain Magneto. However, this major detail has to be given the run around in the film plot because Magneto belongs to Fox’s X-Men licensing. Olsen is going to have to adopt a “European” accent for the film on top of standing beside a trash bag of A-List actors. My speculation is that if she is indeed casted that she will be fine. As for continuity in the story lines and if Wheadon’s portrayal of the characters pay the classic comics justice, that I can’t say… I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
