At the X-Men panel at San Diego Comic Con it was announced that Jason Aaron and Ed Brubaker’s new Amazing X-Men will feature Nightcrawler. With a hand-picked team featuring Wolverine, Storm, Beast, Iceman, Northstar and first-timer Firestar, Amazing X-Men sends its heroes off into the afterlife to bring their team-mate back to life. Jason Aaron announced that he wants to release this series monthly so he can leave room for larger and more epic books. He’s spent time on around 40 books getting deep into the story lines of Wolverine and other X-Men who are in attendance of the Jean Grey School setting up a fantastic combination for an ongoing series. “Amazing X-Men will be about X-Men being X-Men, going on grand adventures all over the Marvel U, with nothing less than the fate of the world at stake. And the first arc will take Wolverine and his band of X-Men outside the realm of the flesh and into the afterlife, as their dead teammate Nightcrawler calls them to aid in the war against Nightcrawler’s own father, Azazel, who’s become a pirate of the afterworld, complete with flying pirate ships, a demonic crew and an army of evil red Bamfs. Also there will be sword fighting. And a fair amount of swashbuckling.” This all sounds very exhilarating considering Nightcrawler hasn’t been featured in a book for quite some time and the concept art look absolutely fabulous. San Diego Comic Con just keeps releasing nerdgasms left and right.
