Oh Thor, you beautiful specimen of Godly hammer wielding man. Thor; The Dark World will be released on November 8th to theaters everywhere. There is so much to expect from this film. There will be Dark Elves, which look pretty creepy if you ask me. There will be Natalie Portman, who is just nice to look at. There will be Malekith the Accursed who will be played by the doctor himself, Chris Eccelston. So many many exciting things to look forward to.
Here’s a little tid bit about Thor’s new villain, Malekith the Accursed, if you are not familiar with his character from the books. His first appearance was in 1984 in the Thor series #344-349 that was created by Walt Simonson. Malekith formed an alliance with Loki through the demon Surtur. Surtur is a vicious ass demon who spits fire. Malekith is known for capturing humans as bait by using faeire food that is provided to him by Hela. Malekith then killed Eric Willis, guardian of the Casket of Ancient Winters, after learning its location. As Master of the Hounds, Malekith hunted down Roger Willis, Eric’s son and new guardian of the Casket. Malekith battled Thor, and kidnapped Lorelei. Using Lorelei as bait, Malekith forced Thor to battle Algrim the Strong, one of his Dark Elf followers, then attempted to destroy both combatants by plunging them into a pool of magma. He then captured the Casket of Ancient Winters from Roger Willis. Malekith was ultimately defeated by Thor, but not before he destroyed the Casket of Ancient Winters, releasing magical frigid force all over the Earth. Malekith was then brought as a captive by Thor to Asgard. That’s just a small bit about his story line. Malekith has all the normal attributes of a member of the race of dark elves, although his abilities are as a result of above-average development. He possesses superhuman intellect, strength, speed, stamina, durability, agility, and reflexes. As a dark elf, Malekith also has the ability to manipulate the forces of magic for a variety of effects, including teleportation, energy projection, physical malleability, flight (by transforming into mist), illusion casting, and the ability to change the shape and appearance of other beings or objects. Malekith has a vulnerability to iron, which disrupts or cancels his magical spells.
Yay for creepy demon summoned bad asses. Also, to have Eccelston playing him seems like a perfect fit. Eccelston is known for playing the doctor for a short period of time in the Doctor Who reboot. This should all be the perfect fit what with Marvel/Disney’s impeccable bank account and masterful crafter special effects. Here are some pictures form the new film that were leaked all over Marvel’s page earlier this week.
