Amanda Harvey Comic Book News, Movies, News

It’s official, Glenn Close has signed on as another Hollywood name to the Guardians of the Galaxy film. She will be playing the head of Nova Corps. However, it was no easy climb to the top. Glenn beat out many hopefuls to obtain the role. Names such as High Laurie, Ken Watanabe, and Alan Rickman all lost to Miss Cruella De Ville herself. There are many stars still in contention and in talks of different roles.
After Zoe Saldana and Michael Rooker shocked the fan boy and fan girl world with their announcements of being included the film the bill just keeps surprising. There has even been talks of John C Reilly jumping on board. In the comics, the head of the Corps. was Nova Prime. While the name might stick in the movie, a lot of the details will have changed. The last feature film that Close was in was Albert Nobbs, which is a complete heavy hitter compared to Guardians. Perhaps this will be the break she needs to get back into a lighter scene.
In the comics the character is male. Richard Rider is a middle-class man from the United States who became a member of the Nova Corps. Calling himself “Nova,” Rider is an inter-galactic peace-keeper. He is empowered by the Nova Force. At present, Richard Rider is the Nova-Prime; the leader of the Nova Corps.
This should be interesting. There is a lot of convulsion of character origins and components in recent filmography. It’s quite the interesting twist on modern day comic conversion. A lot of fans are having issues with the differences, however, there needs to be an understanding of the change of medium and a open minded fan base needs to exist. These people have been making movies for years and even though we want them done in a particular fashion, we can’t be to harsh to judge initial changed.
