Welsh actor Luke Evans has been cast to play the infamous role that Brandon Lee haunts from the 1994 original. Instant cult classic surrounding Lee’s death, Evans hopes to capture the haunting image in good faith considering the film is dear to his heart.
You might recognize Evans from a slough of supernatural and mythic movies. He was in Clash of the Titans as well as The Raven. He also played Zeus in the Immortals. “The Crow was a very poignant film from my childhood, which I remember vividly,” said Evans in an interview with SuperheroHype. “The soundtrack, also. It was such a solid performance that Brandon Lee gave. It was a very tragic end for somebody that probably would have had a very promising career…”
Evans states that the film will remain vastly similar to the original. “I’m Eric Draven. I’m the same character. Obviously, he’s been refreshed and brought up to date. We’re reimagining it to a certain extent, but the story and the plot is mostly the same.”
I’m not necessarily a fan of films being remade and characters being replayed after that star has died. For those of you who don’t know Brandon Lee was shot on set in a fatal accident when the prop gun’s cartridge was filled with actual bullets instead of blanks. He was rushed to the New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC where he underwent 6 hours of surgery. However, attempts to save him were unsuccessful, and Lee was pronounced dead at 1:03pm on March 31, 1993 at 28 years old. The shooting was ruled an accident.
With an eerie loom surrounding this role, I don’t understand how anyone would want to play the exact same character. For one, it’s not honoring the deceased, also those are some pretty big shoes to fill. This remake comes after a long lawsuit settlement with Weinstein Company, and thus Relativity Media has the rights back and are going forth with the remake.

James O’barr and Cliff Dorfman writers of this comic series are the ones creating the refreshed story line for this film, with due right, they created the original story lines through strips and books for years. The film is still in pre production and has been set for sometime in 2014.
