Those of us who love comics can say in all honesty that the coming of the age of technology can go almost without touching our beloved past time. There has only been seen a growing in quality and a speedier production because of the times. However, from a a new stemmed idea comes a concept that could be the first step in a beautiful merger of technology and graphic novels, and it goes by the name of Anomaly.
Anomaly, written by Skip Brittenham and illustrated by Brian Haberlin is a 368 page work of immaculate art that has caught the eye of many graphic novel enthusiasts. Not because of the art or writing, even though both are phenomenal, it’s the uncanny addition that makes this project unique and special. This is the first novel of it’s kind to be interactive with a downloadable app for most electronic devices. The application gives you the option to select a page and focus your camera screen on said page. From there, one of the characters pops up and gives you the option to interact with it. The app also gives you a bio on that character, giving you the description of their history and importance to the story.
Skip Brittenham, writer of this story is known for his involvement in the entertainment law industry. Working as a senior partner for Ziffren Brittenham he has worked with many companies such as Dreamworks, Pixar, and Illumination Entertainment. Paired with illustrator Brian Haberlin who is most well known for his work in Witchblade, the team has created an awesome story the is truly the first of it’s kind .
The story is based on a failing world controlled by a all seeing all knowing merged government known as The Conglomerate , who is hell bent on hoarding all profits and technology. With the catch phrase, “Never use a robot when a human will do” the story follows that of a fallen officer of the conglomerate and his fall to nothing after a vital mistake made under command of the terrorist government. With a failing world and and huge sic-fi element, this book is a definite requirement for any collection. Starting at $75 dollars, it might seem a bit pricey, but well worth it. The artwork in the large, color, hardback book is fantastic and a perfect collectors item. Pick it up if you have the chance.
