Multi-Platinum Canadian rockers Three Days Grace released their 4th album, Transit of Venus, last month, a follow up to 2009’s Life Starts Now. In support of the release the band opted to play small club shows for their long-time fans. Most of the 14 special club dates sold out within ten minutes. During the tour the band headlined Houston’s biannual Buzzfest as well as having the honor of singing the national anthem for a packed Gilette Stadium at the Patriots vs. Jets game. The guys proved at their show in Philadelphia’s Theater of the Living Arts that they are still down to earth despite the incredible opportunities they’ve had in recent weeks.
The 90 minute long set opened with Transit of Venus opening track, “Sign of the Times”, an eerie beginning by new keyboard player Dani, with an energetic and angry chorus similar to the band’s older tracks. Without any hesitation they broke into their latest single “Chalk Outline” before powering through their older singles as well as many of the new songs.
The band introduced Dani before playing keyboard backed track, “Operate”, stating that “a lot of bands out there today are fake. We don’t do any of that shit, backing tracks or whatever. What you see is what you get with us” drawing a huge cheer from their devoted rock fans.
The performance, which included a drum solo that had everyone wanting to dance, a cover of Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” and a solo cover of Tom Petty’s “Free Falling” was by far the best Three Days Grace concert to date. The band are in sync with one another like never before, and connecting with their fans, feeding off of the energy.
