Johann and Kate travel to Russia to stop a strange series of demonic possessions, along with encountering a mysterious man with a strange past. Jump into a Russian warzone against the supernatural in this disturbing issue.
This issue has many great components that come around and complete each other. The mind boggling plot and introduction of some new and nefarious characters adds to the legacy of the BPRD while flashing back to certain events that add to the drama of the story. This particular issue is very Johann-centric, and is a much needed issue in terms of building his character. Trapped inside his suit, the brilliant demon-whisperer is depicted to be a subtle force. However, in this issue we are able to see the spirit within, and even some foreshadowing of evil inside of him. It is no doubt that he has been through much, but his newfound confidence is reassuring to readers.
Although at times the plot of the issue is muddled with flashbacks, it ultimately makes a very satisfying read. The Johann-centric plot is both saddening and empowering, and the chilling conclusion of the issue is worth the read. It is important to note that the Epilogue also includes a very grim series of events. All in all, BPRD Hell on Earth: Russia is worth anyone’s spare time, especially those who are familiar with the series.
