Canadian metal quartet Kittie shook up the Grammercy Theater last night on the NYC stop of their North American tour. The recent departure of long time bassist Ivy received a bittersweet reaction, allowing fans to welcome past bassist Trish Doan back to the band.

The girls are currently on a nonstop tour in support of their 2011 release “I’ve Failed You”. The album has brought mixed reviews from critics, a fact the band seemed to be well aware of. The majority of their set consisted of tracks from their debut and sophomore albums, including hits ‘Brackish’ and ‘Mouthful of Poison’. The thrashing guitars and raw screams sent a chill through my spine; it wasn’t difficult to see they put their heart into each and every song.

There are no words to sum up lead vocalist Morgan Lander’s talent. Her raw screams power over the heavy bass and drums–an unexpected sight from such a petite and smiley woman. On lighter tracks her voice was soulful and smooth, as if she had never shouted a day in her life.

Grammercy Theater was packed full of fans that have been with the band since 1996. A mosh pit that covered almost the entire floor continued moving nonstop throughout the set, while long haired metal-heads against the barrier head-banged enthusiastically.

Kittie’s loyal fan base and devotion are enough to perfect any of their performances, never-mind their extreme amount of talent. They put all they had into their set, and it showed.
