Brit stoner metal band released their 7th full length album on Feb. 13th through Candlelight Records. Originally called Our Haunted Kingdom (not sure if the new name was the right choice), they formed in 1995 & haven’t seemed to stop since despite not releasing an album since 2007. They had assured fans it would be worth the wait & I believe it has been. The guitar riffs are memorable & hit hard, most notably in the opening track “Red Tide Rising.” This is easily their heaviest album to date & I’m almost having trouble calling them a stoner metal band because of the power behind each track, even the slower, doomier tracks. Being a metal head I’m quick to label a band as a certain genre, but even as raw & no-bullshit this album is I have to say they’re a bit genre bending.

Ben Ward’s vocals are raspy & a great homage to 70s Brit metal, but the guitars are by far the best part of this album. Orange Goblin hasn’t lost their edge, 16 years in & I’m wanting to see where they’ll go. They’ve been called by fans one of the best live bands on the planet, so check out their UK & Ireland tour if you’re around.
