Just two years ago, Wizard World was riding high with the acquisition of several high profile shows in the U.S. and Canada. The company was acquiring shows in Boston, NY, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Anaheim. The company was on a roll. Then, just like that, things began to collapse. The company scaled back on some shows. Some conventions never materialized (Cincinnati, New Jersey) and the great Comic Book Convention wars with Reed Exhibitors (NY Comic Con, C2E2) was lost. Finally the nail hit the coffin when it was announced that much maligned owner Garub Shamus would be stepping down from his post as president/CEO of the company.
Now it seems that Wizard World has pulled out all together from major markets it once worked in. The Big Apple Show in NY seems to be all but gone, and no word on the Atlanta and California shows anywhere.
Take a look at Wizards skimmed down schedule. A fall from Grace? You decide.
