Animals as Leaders started as Tosin Abasi’s solo project. He’s a Washington D.C. based guitar player who played guitar for Born of Osiris & Reflux. He now has a full instrumental band with Javier also playing guitar & Navene Koperweis from Animosity playing drums. This is a mixture of electronic, ambient, progressive metal & jazz that I can just hear Tosin has spent years perfecting the sound of.
This album Is much funkier & has more electronic beats than his first. Surely these songs take him no time to write but it sound as if he’s taken months to compose each one. Both guitar players are using an 8 string, so this allows Javier to play rhythm & still provide enough depth & rumble to make up for not having a bass player. Though I can’t imagine how deep they would sound with one.
This is definitely a guitar porn album for nerds, but I do think any listener regardless of musical ability can enjoy. This album came out November 8th of last year on Prosthetic Records.
