So, it has finally happened. All the rumors, missed shows and cancelations have come to a head…lead singer Howard Jones has departed Killswitch Engage. Reason for his leaving isn’t being released as of yet, and by the looks of it, seems that the band is keeping it close to the vest on the reason. Howard missed several shows last year while the band was on a stateside tour, with All That Remains singer Phil Labonte steping in to fill some dates. The band also performed with former lead singer Jesse Lynch in New York city in 2010. The band has issued the following statement…

To our family, friends and fans: We have decided to continue on without Howard Jones as the singer of Killswitch Engage. We love Howard and are thankful for the nine years that we’ve had him in the band. Out of respect for everyone involved we will not be discussing the specific reasons behind this decision. Howard is a part of our family and always will be, and we wish him well. He has left big shoes to fill, so we certainly have our work cut out for us to find the next singer of Killswitch, something we plan on making priority #1 going forward. Most importantly, thanks to all of you for all the support throughout the years and for sticking by us for all this time. We really do appreciate it and we very much look forward to having a new record for all of you in the not too distant future that we can all be proud of. Sincerely, Adam, Joel, Mike & Justin.

So, third time the charm? (Can anyone say Gary Cherrone and Van Halen?) Time will tell. Phil Labonte, when approached with the question was he going to join Killswitch, said no. The band will be hard pressed to get someone soon as they had recently anounced their upcoming appearance at this years New England Heavy Metal/Hardcore festival this April…Any takers?
