The Beginning of the End…By Andrew Sanford

Christopher Nolan reveals the first 6-7 minutes of his final Batman film to the public… And Metal Machine was there!!

If you’re like me, you’ve been chomping at the bit to see any finished footage from Christopher Nolan’s upcoming summer release The Dark Knight Rises. If you’re really like me, you spent an hour and a half glued to your computer screen on Friday December 9th, frustratingly competing with hundreds of others to get the chance to do just that. Lucky fans that were following the viral marketing setup by TDKR were given a chance to sign onto operationearlybird.com, find the closest IMAX Theater on a map, log into gofobo.com and TA-DA, one to two passes to see the first six minutes of the film.
The reason this took me (and the nerd world I’m sure) so long is that either the TDKR site or gofobo (a site dedicated to movie screenings and other movie related goodness) would crash fairly frequently. Making it through this grueling type fest however, proved to be worth the effort.
I will not say much about what was shown (You can go see Mission Impossible 4 in IMAX to find out the details) but what I will say is that Christopher Nolan is looking to go out with a bang. The action is bigger, the stakes are higher and the villain is tougher. Bane makes his presence felt hard in the prologue. Tom Hardy looks monstrous and it is made quite clear that he may be breaking a few things by the end of this movie.
On the subject of Bane’s voice, it is true that it can be hard to understand him at certain, high octane moments. Something I’m sure will be fixed in post. The voice itself has an eerie, sadistic, militaristic tone to it. I’m sure it will be given the clarity it deserves.
I was already looking forward to this film and seeing the prologue has only left me craving more. Bane has always been one of my favorite Batman villains and I’m sure he will prove to be a very formidable opponent for the Dark Knight. Whether or not Batman comes out unscathed and unbroken is yet to be seen.
