The Big Kahuna Hard Music, News

The first album in more than 12 years, Ritual’s The Resurrection is a return to form, and possibly a superior successor to previous Ritual albums The Summoning, Demonic Winter Metal, and Soldiers Under Satan’s Command. More, however, than just a return to form, The Resurrection is a return to a music industry that has changed immensely in the past twelve years. But so has Ritual. Still full of memorable riffs, Ian Ritual has stripped away everything extraneous to give the guitar work more room to breathe on The Resurrection, bringing to the table a new album full of black metal with hooks and melody but still retaining the rawness that helps define Ritual. The fact that Ritual is forging ahead strong is testament to the fact that, despite a music industry that is less about artistry and truth and more about studio trickery and one-hit wonders, there is still a place for musicians that are not willing to compromise their integrity just to bow to the almighty dollar. Funeral Rain Records is currently streaming the track “Drowning Into The Sea”  from The Resurrection at this location.

Ritual itself was formed in 1993 and was very influential in the United States Black Metal scene with their first album, The Summoning in 1995. They continued with Demonic Winter Metal in 1997 and Soldiers Under Satan’s Command in 1998, all three on Wild Rags. The band split up with several years passing. Ian picked up the mantle of Ritual alone and forged ahead to write songs that would become The Resurrection, continuing the proud
tradition of Ritual’s black metal.
