I think the French are a serious rival for the Norwegians in black metal. Coming from the not so cold Vernouillet, Haemoth, a two man project, is raw black in its purest form. In Nomine Odium is their third full length album after a variety of demos, splits & compilations.
With the all the sexy grooves & tremolo picking I crave, this could be a dirtier, as well as horrifying sound track.
Even the intro “Odium” gives me the feeling of despair & impending slaughter raw black metal is all about. Haemoth, the vocalist, guitarist & bass player knows exactly what he wants from each song. Shyt, his drummer, knows what Haemoth demands from his songs. The two have obviously forged a perfect working relationship. This duo knows remains raw while maintaining perfect rhythm, melody & atmosphere.
“Slaying the Blind,” the second track, now I understand that Haemoth truly hates me.
The recording quality surpasses previous efforts, not that this matters in black metal. Still, I don’t feel they’ve grown much other than getting nicer equipment, this could very easily be a continuation of their previous albums, which is all great work.
This seven song album is a solid addition to your black metal collection. It will be available January 10th 2012 through Debemur Morti Productions.
