It’s time to GO! The classic 1980’s Hanna Barbera cartoon television series is back on DVD, with the first five episodes digitally remastered on a single disc. Witness the action of the destructive GoBot rebels under the orders of the infamous Cy-Kill against the GoBot Guardians sworn to protect the inhabitants of planet Earth.
The GoBots are essentially vehicular transforming machines that are from the might mechanized planet GoBotron. Upon receiving classified information from a deceptive human NASA coordinator, a group of rebel GoBots, dubbed the Renegades, travel to Earth, After stealing a GoBot artifact, the true clash begins. The cartoon becomes a series of battles between the Guardians, the good robots, and the Renegades. Sound a bit familiar?
With the impact of the Renegade ship on the planet, a NASA official pilot and two interns, become thrown into the mix. After witnessing the arrival of hulking robotic aliens, the three humans do what any humans would normally do in the situation…run away screaming. But the Renegades don’t want witnesses, and this is where Challenge of the GoBots takes off in terms of plot. The Guardians swoop down to save the innocent NASA operatives and engage in combat with the equally powerful Renegades.
Challenge of the GoBots is just a taste of the true might of the cartoon series, yet the DVD brings out the greatest exposition and draws in viewers to a true classic. The battles are consistent in each episode and the greatest aspect of the cartoon is that there is the optimal balance of plot drive and action drive. I mean, who can resist giant robotic plasma weapon battles along with high speed vehicle chases? But rather than senselessness in all this action, there is a suspense factor tagged on it that makes it all worthwhile. The GoBots may seem outdated to modern viewers, but the series proves itself to be masterfully put together. All in all, the Challenge of the GoBots is good to go.
