Last night in Chicago I was privileged to spend my night with three amazing bands and a crowded house.
The opening band was the Atlas Moth. I had heard of these guys and missed them at the Metaliance in Joliet, I did see their awesome merchandise though. Everything was really psychedelic, t-shirts with drop acid not bombs sticks out to me, so I was really intrigued. At the bar all I heard were good things about them and a real positive buzz. As soon as they broke into the first song I was hooked. It sounded to me like some sort of psychedelic, fuzzy, stonery, sort of doomy, black metal. It reminded me of what I heard people say about Nachmystium, but it seemed to fit better with Atlas Moth to me. They seemed to have some time to relax on stage and really get into the grove. I couldn’t tell you one song they played but it was all pretty fuckin awesome and loud and I can’t wait to watch these guys again and see were they go. http://www.myspace.com/theatlasmothband
Next up was Doomriders who I was familiar with and knew a few songs. Doomriders were as awesome as I hoped they would be. They opened with “Ride or Die”, I think thats the name, and continued to pummel the crowd. “Heavy lies the crown” was a total rager, tons of energy and heart and was one of the best songs that night. http://www.myspace.com/doomriders
Last was Floor. I had no idea who these guys were but everyone else seemed to be there to see them, and they definitely got the best response from the crowd. I totally understand the name Floor as they were some of the lowest tunes I’ve ever heard in my life. But amidst the heavyness there were really catchy light riffs and high soaring vocals. The singer was also a showman to boot and was fun to watch. For me I dont think I would buy their whole catalog but someone else will. If you can check out this tour or any of these guys at any time.http://www.myspace.com/floor
