» Blog Archive Review: Roger Waters: The Wall Live at MSG -

Calling Pink Floyd heavy metal is a stretch and I know that as I set out to write this review, however their influence in heavy metal is prominent considering bands like Korn, Voivod and 1349 have all covered a Pink Floyd song over the course of their careers. Therefore, I felt it prudent to post a review of Roger Waters performance of The Wall: Live at Madison Square Garden from October 6th.
I’ll say it up front and state that this was one of the most epic concerts I’ve ever attended. The production, detail, workmanship and sound quality were nothing short of spectacular and considering this tour had lost money on its initial run 30 years ago, I was amazed to see how much went into it. Aside from playing “The Wall” from start to finish, a full sized wall was constructed from one side of the Garden to the other and stood about 300 feet high. Brick by brick it was constructed as the concert went on and as each brick was put in place, it became part of the oversized projection screen which the wall doubled as. Animation from the 1982 film was used as well as some newly created clips and as with any Pink Floyd performance, the light show was unbelievable.
Roger’s voice was impeccable all night long; you would hardly be able to tell his age based on the clarity of his voice and his movements around stage. His backing band was flawless and even the sound effects from the album weren’t lost in the mix.
After falling in love with the movie and album nearly 13 years ago, this was an experience I’ve hoped for since then. Although many of the dates are sold out, if you have any interest in Pink Floyd, try and get yourself some tickets because this is one spectacle that won’t be back again.
