SLAYER SHARES THE UPPER ECHELON OF THE BILLBOARD CHART WITH UNDERWOOD, JACKSON, SWIFT AND “GLEE”
“World Painted Blood” Debuts at #12, #1 at Indie Retail

Los Angeles, CA – November 11, 2009 — Satan, the Apocalypse, serial killers, and war are alive and well and thriving on the upper deck of the Billboard Top 200 Albums charts, thanks to Slayer’s 10th studio album, World Painted Blood, which debuts at #12 next week.

Keeping chart company with artists like Carrie Underwood, Andrea Bocelli, Taylor Swift, Michael Jackson, and the “Glee” soundtrack, Slayer’s World Painted Blood holds the distinction of having sold more than 41,000 copies in its first week while NOT being carried in the major chains like WalMart or K-Mart. In addition, World Painted Blood is a top 10 seller in major markets such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco and Boston. And if that’s not enough, WPB is the #1 album at indie retail this week – having sold nearly twice the number of the #2 entry – demonstrating the strong, core fan base that the thrash/metal giants continue to possess.

Slayer is showing its global retail muscle as well with World Painted Blood debuting in the Top 10 in countries including Germany, Australia, Japan, and Canada.

At metal radio this week, Slayer’s World Painted Blood holds the #1 spots on both the CMJ Loud Rock and FMQB Metal Detector charts.

World Painted Blood has received some pretty impressive reviews, with numerous writers citing it as the band’s best since Seasons in the Abyss or the celebrated Reign in Blood. The Daily News called WPB “the heaviest, nastiest, bloodiest and best album in almost two decades,” the Boston Globe referred to its “punky thrash dynamics and strong songcraft,” while Outburn enthused, “there isn’t a bad track here.”

World Painted Blood was produced by Greg Fidelman and executive produced by Rick Rubin and released on American Recordings/Columbia Records.
