With the release of Zack Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead a blight fell upon pop culture. That blight is zombies. Since 2005, everyone and their sister has done or released a comic or movie based around zombies. Marvel Zombies, The Walking Dead, Zombies of Mass Destruction, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, The Corpse Bride, World War Z, Shaun of the Dead, Planet Terror, anything Resident Evil related, the Army of Darkness comics, Blackest Night President Evil (starring Obama against Zombies), and who knows what else I omitted. Enough already! I am sick to death of zombies.

Hey, don’t get me wrong zombies are good in small doses, but the amount of zombie material that has been released in the past four years is ridiculous. What is so great about zombies? Every zombie story is the same, the dead rise in hordes craving brains, and a small group of the living is trying to survive the horde. I don’t care if you give them super powers, set it in a post-apocalyptic nightmare, or if it’s a chemical weapon released by accident; it’s the same story. All the characters are archetypal and yet always fall into stupidity when they see a friend, relative, or loved one, with their jaw hanging off, think they can turn them back. If anything, zombies are a perfect example of the lack of originality permeating the entertainment industry. You know what zombies are good as? An undead horde raised by an evil overlord to distract his enemies while he attacks his primary target. That’s it.

I am personally calling for a moratorium on zombies. There’s too much out there and it’s not any different from anything that came before. (Hell, I’d make it a firing offense to propose it for about a year) Let’s have some originality instead.
