Combining elements of modern and traditional death metal with 70’s prog rock and folk, originally Finnish progressive death metal outfit BARREN EARTH, now reinforced by Faroese native lead singer Jón Aldará, managed to build up an excellent reputation with only two albums. Their debut “Curse Of The Red River” (2010) and its follow-up “The Devil’s Resolve” (2012) have already solidified the band as one of the most promising upcoming acts of the genre and now they are at the ready to release another milestone in their career, taking the experimentation and heaviness to even further heights.
In addition to their previously announced North American live takeover this March supporting progressive black metal technicians, Enslaved, long-running Portland doom monarchs, YOB, today reveal additional headlining stage rumblings. With various performances scattered prior to, throughout and following the Enslaved run, YOB will decimate ears in Sacramento, Boise, Columbus, Raleigh, Johnson City, Atlanta, Memphis, New Orleans, Houston, Austin, Albuquerque and Tucson. Support will be provided by noise rockers, Will Haven, doom wranglers, Witch Mountain and trance-inducing psych rock perpetrators, Ecstatic Vision (also on the Enslaved tour) on select dates.

The IDW Publishing / Thrillbent partnership kicks off with Empire, the fan-favorite series by Mark Waid and Barry Kitson. In April, IDW will be releasing a print edition of the original Empire graphic novel as well as the first issue of its monthly sequel, Empire: Uprising, that continues the story of Golgoth, the most marked man in the universe.
On February 23rd, Swedish masters of furious, intense and merciless black metal, DARK FUNERAL, will return with the release of their new single/7″ entitled, Nail Them To The Cross. Besides the title track, that has been released as a video some weeks ago in order to present their new vocalist Heljarmadr, the single includes another brand new track called “Temple Of Ahriman”. Both songs were recorded at Dugout Studios in Uppsala/Sweden and were mixed and mastered by Daniel Bergstrand. The cover artwork was created by Marcelo Vasco.

Set to drop next month via Metal Blade Records, the predominantly analog-recorded offering was captured by award-winning producer Anssi Kippo (Children Of Bodom, Impaled Nazarene, Entwine etc.) at Astia-Studios in Lappeenranta, Finland and delivers eleven punishingly epic odes alongside a four-track bonus CD featuring the band’s rendition of Barathrum’s “Warmetal,” Iron Maiden’s “Wrathchild,” Uriah Heep’s “Lady In Black,” and Judas Priest’s “Breaking The Law“.
