The nail finally hit the coffin when it comes to Constantine. NBC has officially cancelled the supernatural “Comic Book” show based on the exploits of John Constantine and the comic book Hellblazer. This is the first official Comic Book based TV show cancelled by any network in what is being called “The Golden Age of Comic Books for Movies and TV”.

Is the genre starting to show cracks in the armor? Are we seeing some type of writing on the wall? The mainstream seems to be jam packed with all things comic books and comic book related news and info. Just check out the front page of YAHOO and you can see the first 10 stories are filled with comic book news. But the ride may finally be showing some wear and tear. Avengers: Age Of Ultron opened to some slight mixed reviews. And out of all the major networks only one (CBS) made a comic book related pick up (Super Girl) ABC did renew Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter, but Disney owns both ABC and Marvel and those pick ups were seen as more subsidized long form commercials for their Marvel movie franchises. Constantine suffered from a bad time slot and little network support. The show was considered true to the comic book and was subject to several fan campaigns to save it. Rumors swirled early on that the show might shift over to NBC’s sister network SYFY, but no news has come of this mention. Time will ell if the producers can move the show to another network or even off network to a venue like Amazon or Netflix.
