Irving Plaza was full of 80’s hair metal fans, hairspray, and spandex on Wednesday night for a sold out Steel Panther show. The packed crowd were entertained by a medley of Iron Maiden, Guns N’ Roses, and Metallica as they waited for the comedic band to take the stage. Two hours after doors the lights finally dimmed as fans drowned out Black Sabbath with chants of “Steel Pan-ther!” The Vegas hair metal band started out with ‘Supersonic Sex Machine’ from their 2011 release, ‘Balls Out’. Following their first ever trek through Brazil with Aborted, California goregrind ministers EXHUMED will spray their blood overseas next month on the Grind Over Europe Tour 2012. Set to kick off on February 24 in Barcelona, Spain, the band will mercilessly tear through 16 cities. Speakers will blow, ears will bleed, villages will crumble. You have been warned. So, it has finally happened. All the rumors, missed shows and cancelations have come to a head…lead singer Howard Jones has departed Killswitch Engage. Reason for his leaving isn’t being released as of yet, and by the looks of it, seems that the band is keeping it close to the vest on the reason. Howard missed several shows last year while the band was on a stateside tour, with All That Remains singer Phil Labonte steping in to fill some dates. The band also performed with former lead singer Jesse Lynch in New York city in 2010. The band has issued the following statement…

Traditional heavy metal power trio CARELESS, has released a video for the song “D.F.M.” from their latest album, Coalition. Featuring footage filmed at the abandoned Ashley Coalbreaker (one of the last remaining structures from the Industrial Era) as well as at the band members’ childhood homes, the video is themed around the main character’s search for individual freedom. Additional footage was filmed near San Dimas, CA.

Having made one of 2011’s most impressive rock’n’roll comebacks that included the 9/13/11 release of the band’s long-awaited new album Worship Music that landed on boatloads of “Best of 2011…” lists, metal masters ANTHRAX will keep the pedal to the metal in 2012. The band launches the New Year with the delivery to radio of a second single from Worship Music, “I’m Alive,” and plans to tour extensively beginning January 22 with round two of a U.S. co-headline tour with fellow thrash titans, Testament (dates are below).

Metallica has announced that is “has decided to go old school” and will release its current digital EP, Beyond Magnetic, on CD worldwide at retail on January 30th and on January 31st in North America. The EP, released via all digital retailers on December 13th, features four tracks recorded during the sessions for 2008’s 2x-platinum Death Magnetic, the band’s fifth consecutive No. 1 album.
