For adult manga fans, the pickings aren’t exactly great. At the end of the day, US translation of manga is skewed towards younger audiences; so a good mature read can be hard to come by. Thankfully we do have some imprints bringing some great stuff to our shores, and today I’m going to introduce you to two decidedly underappreciated gems from VIZ. Terra Formars, a gory sci-fi action series that’s Starship Troopers by way of X-Men, and Food Wars, a cooking manga with a twist. Hit the jump for all the details!

It’s officially Fall; and that means its horror comics season. Time to crack open the long boxes and dust off some October classics, and if you’re looking to buy some weirdo funny books than you’re in luck! Every publisher under the sun will be doing just that and are already  getting the shelves fit for new books and reprints galore; and no publisher more so than Dark Horse. And for your money, it doesn’t get any better than their Eerie reprints. Every four months we get another slab of old horror goodness, but this is the 6th year of reprints from the Eerie vault. But what the hell is Eerie you ask, and why should you care?

God Hates Astronauts #1 is easily my favorite book this month. A loaded statement for sure, since this month has seen only one Wednesday. That’s a whole three new comic book days away from the end of the month; and here I am already declaring this one is the best of the whole crop? Absolutely. God Hates Astronauts is a tour de force, I honestly can’t think of a book that made me smile ear to ear before the book even started. What makes this such a great title? Why am I so eager to sing the praises of a book that seemingly comes out of nowhere? Why is there a man with a flaming cow head on the cover? Let’s get this all sorted out after the cut

In the mid to late Nineties, a young, brash director was approached by a major studio to direct a re imagined version of an uber popular character that was recently maligned and exhausted as a movie franchise. This new version was going to be a radical departure of what anyone had ever seen and the director was on board with the changes. The Director?
