Metallica just announced they will be performing a at their own, self created festival June 23 and 24th. There is going to be a slew of bands playing at this 2 day extravaganza. But it’s not what you think. In what seems to become the norm for Metallica, the band has gone off the rails again and thrown a monkey wrench in this festival announcement. As some would think that this festival would be a metal festival, it is not. In true Metallica form, the band has invited what it says “are their favorite bands”! With more band announcements coming. The band isn’t stupid, by any means. This festival takes over what Lalapalooza was in the 90′s. A divergence of different genres for everyone. Sure to attract every demo known to man. When Metallica does something, they do it large and all the way. The band is not saying if the Orion Festival (That’s what they’re calling it, by the way) will be a yearly event, stating that they want to see how it all comes out. Metallica also announced they will be performing 2 full albums for the two nights…Ride The Lightning and The Black album (That sound you hear in the distance are metal heads groaning…about the Black album) So, smart move? Absolutely! Will metal heads be pissed it’s not a metal festival? For sure. But then again, Metallica always seems to juggle many musical hats (The Big Four, Lulu, Lalapalooza, Riot Fest) I’m sure this thing will be a hit. The question is…are you going?
