“Day zero is what I refer to as the moment a person has to start their life over, after losing everything or everyone they know and having to almost literally begin again following a significant loss or tragedy, and the life that is to come from then on,” explains vocalist Nick Holland of Detroit-based metalcore band WOUNDED TOUCH. The group’s debut EP From Day 0 Forward was released today via Smartpunk Records.

From Day 0 Forward was recorded at Oneder Studios, engineered by Nick Diener (The Swellers, Silverstein, MxPx) and mastered by Jay Maas (Bane, Title Fight, Defeater). “The songs all covered various stages of survival and self-care, beginning with what I refer to as day zero, the moment the life you knew and had been living ended, the first day that the new life you didn’t choose started,” describes Holland.

Wounded Touch strikes a balance between the blistering foundations of these former projects to soundtrack the horror of destroyed lives at a grueling pace. Across a clipped running time, the quintet plots a survival plan in the wake of broken families ruptured by divorce and dishonesty, while letting trauma and suffering be a thunderous power source. Their metalcore is abrupt (“Memories Like Shrapnel”) and vicious (“A Hell I No Longer Deserve”), but it’s primed for the pressure points triggered when suffering takes center stage.

Exclusive vinyl and limited edition bundles are available over at Smartpunk Records’ webstore. 7″ vinyl is available in green and blue swirl (100 units, Smartpunk exclusive) and random color (200 units). The Ultimate Bundle includes Smartpunk exclusive green and blue swirl vinyl, long sleeve t-shirt, short sleeve t-shirt, and etched razor blade with carrying case. Wounded Touch was formed from the rubble of a varied arsenal of Michigan bands including Sunlight Ascending, Steamroller, and Sunlight’s Bane. The band is Nick Holland (vocals), Mike Poshedly (guitar), Kyle Maddock (guitar) and Jeremy Schultz (drums). Their debut EP From Day 0 Forward was released today via Smartpunk Records.
