Dale Crover and Joyful Noise Recordings present a groundbreaking innovation in modern vinyl record/musical instrument hybridization with the limited edition release of “Thunder Pinky” (http://joyfulnoi.se/ThunderPinky) via splash cymbal.
The single, which comes from Crover’s recently released solo album, The Fickle Finger of Fate, is a playable, custom-designed and lathe cut 6.9” splash cymbal, hand-crafted by sub-amateur cymbalsmith Michael Dixon. The release, which is available now, is limited to 127 copies, each hand numbered and signed by Crover.
The Crover/Joyful Noise Recordings partnership had previously birthed the highly collectible, and quickly sold out, Skins release, a 12-sided record featuring six spindle holes and 12 pieces of music.
Crover has a busy remainder of the year, with North American Melvins’ tour dates stretching through early October followed by a double-header of the Melvins and Redd Kross (Crover plays drums in both bands) trekking overseas to both Europe and Australia. Dates are below.
Rolling Stone spoke with Crover about his first solo album (http://www.rollingstone.com/music/features/melvins-drummer-dale-crover-on-his-debut-solo-album-w485159), describing The Fickle Finger of Fate as a “no traps-bashing chops-feast, instead showcasing a melodic sensibility weaned on Sixties pop and Seventies arena rock, with no shortage of wild effects.” Pitchfork said of the 20-track collection, “Crover’s always had the energy and savage edge to be a singular metal drummer. But he’s also a gifted grunge and rock artist, a genuine punk at heart.”
